Summary
This study tested whether an oral drug called bitopertin could help adults with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a condition that causes severe pain from sunlight exposure. Seventy-five participants were randomly assigned to receive either bitopertin or a placebo pill for about four months. Researchers measured changes in blood chemicals related to EPP and tracked how much sunlight participants could tolerate without pain.
