Brain monitor tweak may improve anesthesia safety in quick surgeries

NCT ID NCT07389798

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study reviewed records of 511 adults who had short ear, nose, or throat surgeries with a specific type of anesthesia (remimazolam) and a reversal drug (flumazenil). Researchers compared patients whose brain activity (BIS) was kept below 60 during surgery to those whose BIS was higher. The goal was to see if deeper anesthesia reduced the chance of being aware during surgery, without causing more side effects like low blood pressure or delayed recovery.
