Bionic leg lets amputees feel and control movements naturally

NCT ID NCT03913273

First seen Feb 18, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested a new type of bionic leg for people with below-knee amputations. The leg uses special surgical connections to muscles, allowing users to control ankle movements more naturally and even feel the leg's position. 14 active amputees participated, and the goal was to see if this approach improves walking on stairs and uneven ground compared to standard prosthetics.
