Scientists hunt for clues to predict who will suffer radiation side effects

NCT ID NCT02259218

First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study analyzed blood, urine, and tissue samples from 273 adults with lung or brain cancer who were receiving radiation therapy. The goal was to find biomarkers that could predict which patients are more likely to develop serious side effects from radiation, such as lung inflammation or brain damage. Researchers also looked for biomarkers linked to how long patients survive. The study did not test a new treatment, but aimed to improve future care by identifying patients at higher risk.
