Scientists test Lab-Grown cornea implant to restore vision

NCT ID NCT04653922

Summary

This study tested the safety and early effectiveness of a bioengineered corneal implant for people with advanced keratoconus, a condition that thins and bulges the cornea. Twenty adults received the implant in a minimally invasive procedure, aiming to improve vision without relying on scarce human donor tissue. Researchers monitored whether the implant was safe and if it helped flatten the cornea and improve vision over at least one year.
