Could a simple steroid help tiniest babies escape the ventilator?

NCT ID NCT07447739

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving the steroid betamethasone to extremely premature babies (born before 28 weeks) can help them come off a breathing machine faster and lower their risk of chronic lung disease. About 100 babies will either receive the drug or standard care, and doctors will track their breathing progress and any side effects like high blood sugar or blood pressure. The goal is to find a safer way to support lung development in the most vulnerable newborns.
