This study tested whether taking betaine (a natural substance found in beets) for 8 weeks can help overweight and obese women lose body fat and improve their cholesterol levels. Fifty-four pre-menopausal women took either betaine or a placebo pill daily. Researchers measured body fat, waist size, and blood fats, and also looked at how fat cells process lipids. The goal was to see if betaine can be a simple, safe way to support weight management.
