New drug could unlock donor kidneys for hard-to-match patients

NCT ID NCT07539857

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether belimumab, a drug that affects immune cells, can improve detection of antibodies that make it hard for some kidney patients to find a donor. About 25 highly sensitized adults waiting for a kidney transplant will receive a short course of belimumab. Researchers will check if this helps identify more compatible donors and reduces wait time for a transplant.
