New ACL repair technique could change how torn knees are treated

NCT ID NCT02664545

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) called BEAR, which uses a special bridge to help the ligament heal itself. It is compared to the standard surgery that replaces the torn ligament with a tendon from another part of the body. About 100 people aged 14 to 35 with a complete ACL tear will be followed for up to 10 years to see which method better restores knee stability and function.
