Blood test could end the need for live sting challenges in venom allergy patients

NCT ID NCT04438525

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood test called BAT inhibition can reliably tell if venom immunotherapy has protected a person from allergic reactions to insect stings. Currently, the only way to be sure is to sting patients with live insects, which is not widely available. The study will involve 219 adults with wasp venom allergy who are either currently receiving or have completed venom immunotherapy. If successful, this blood test could make it easier and safer to monitor treatment effectiveness.
