First seen May 16, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two surgeries for thumb base arthritis: total joint replacement (using a new prosthesis) and trapeziectomy (removing a small bone). About 84 adults aged 40-80 will be randomly assigned to one surgery. Researchers will measure grip strength, pain, and costs over 10 years to see which method is better.
