Blindfold balance boot camp for seniors: a new way to prevent falls?

NCT ID NCT07554118

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether practicing balance on a moving platform while blindfolded can help adults over 65 rely more on their body's internal sense of position (somatosensory input) rather than vision. Thirty participants will train for two weeks, with half wearing blindfolds during exercises. Researchers will measure improvements in balance during walking and standing tasks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

dynamic balance training on a stabilometer with restricted vision

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward simple, non-drug balance exercises to help older adults reduce fall risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The training is short (2 weeks) and may not produce lasting improvements.
