Can textured insoles boost balance training for diabetic nerve damage?
NCT ID NCT07830173
First seen Sep 21, 2026 · Last updated Sep 21, 2026
Summary
People with peripheral diabetic neuropathy often have poor balance and foot pain, which raises the risk of falls. This trial compares task-oriented balance training alone with the same training plus textured insoles that add sensory feedback from the feet. Researchers will measure changes in balance, mobility, and foot pain in 28 adults with type 2 diabetes and diagnosed neuropathy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- task-oriented balance training with or without textured insoles
- What this could lead to
- If the combination works, it could offer a low-cost, non-drug way to improve balance and reduce foot pain for people with diabetic neuropathy.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small, with 28 participants, and lasts only a few weeks, so any benefits may be modest or short-lived. Textured insoles may not add measurable benefit beyond exercise alone.
