Bacteria bombs target stubborn tumors in new cancer combo trial

NCT ID NCT03435952

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests a special bacteria (Clostridium novyi-NT) injected directly into tumors, combined with the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab, for people with advanced solid tumors that haven't responded to standard treatments. The bacteria are designed to break down tumor cells from the inside, while pembrolizumab helps the immune system attack the cancer. The main goal is to find the safest dose of the bacteria and see if the combination can control the disease. Up to 18 participants will be treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
