Summary
This early-stage study tested whether a treatment containing beneficial bacteria could safely help children with autism who also have significant stomach problems. Eighteen children participated to see if the treatment was tolerable and if it improved their gastrointestinal symptoms. Researchers also looked for any changes in autism-related behaviors as a secondary goal.
