Heart patients may not need to fast before procedure, new study says

NCT ID NCT06996639

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study looks at whether people with heart pain or mild heart attacks need to fast before an urgent heart catheterization. Researchers want to see if eating and drinking before the procedure makes patients more comfortable without causing safety problems like vomiting or breathing issues. About 400 participants will be randomly assigned to either fast or eat as usual, and their comfort and safety will be tracked.
