Virtual cues on a treadmill: a new hope for Parkinson's falls?
NCT ID NCT04108741
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding augmented reality (AR) to treadmill training can help people with Parkinson's disease who have trouble walking and are at risk of falling. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: treadmill training with AR, treadmill training with a mental dual-task, or treadmill training alone. Over three weeks, researchers will compare the effects on falls, walking, freezing, and attention for three months to see if AR offers extra benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Augmented reality treadmill training using the C-Mill device, compared with dual-task treadmill training and standard treadmill training
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a new rehabilitation strategy to reduce falls and improve gait in people with Parkinson's disease.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, and the benefits may not be lasting or may not apply to all patients. The training requires regular sessions and may not be widely accessible.
