New combo boosts platelet counts in stubborn blood disorder

NCT ID NCT05438875

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding ATRA to eltrombopag works better than eltrombopag alone for adults with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) that did not respond to steroids. ITP causes low platelet counts, leading to bleeding risks. The trial enrolled 96 participants and measured how many maintained safe platelet levels without rescue treatment at 18 months. The goal is to improve long-term disease control, not cure the condition.
