New nasal cannula design tested for easier breathing in respiratory failure
NCT ID NCT06204276
First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested whether a new asymmetrical high-flow nasal cannula helps people with acute respiratory failure breathe easier compared to the standard cannula. Forty adults with low oxygen levels received both types of nasal cannulas at different flow rates in random order. Researchers measured diaphragm and chest muscle activity using ultrasound to see if the asymmetrical design reduces breathing effort.
