New hope for kids: drug combo may stop transplant rejection

NCT ID NCT03924401

First seen Mar 12, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding abatacept to standard medications can prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in 30 children and teens receiving stem cell transplants from unrelated donors for serious blood disorders. GVHD is a dangerous complication where donor cells attack the patient's body. Participants will receive abatacept alongside standard drugs and be followed for up to 3 years to see if this approach improves survival without severe GVHD or graft rejection.
