Stockings vs. no stockings: major study questions old practice after joint surgery

NCT ID NCT06563531

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study is looking at whether blood-thinning medication alone is enough to prevent dangerous blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery, or if compression stockings are still needed. About 1,274 people having their first hip or knee replacement will be randomly assigned to get either medication alone or medication plus stockings. The goal is to see if skipping the stockings is just as safe.
