Summary

This study tested the drug apremilast (Otezla) in 203 Chinese adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Participants took either apremilast or a placebo pill twice daily for 16 weeks. The main goal was to see if more people on apremilast achieved at least a 75% improvement in their psoriasis skin symptoms compared to placebo.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
apremilast (Otezla)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new oral treatment option for Chinese patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, helping clear skin and reduce itching.
What could go wrong
This is a completed Phase 3 trial, but results may not apply to all populations. Apremilast can cause side effects like nausea, diarrhea, and headache. It controls symptoms but does not cure psoriasis.
