Could an apple a day keep allergy symptoms away?
NCT ID NCT07380178
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether apple fruit extract, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, could improve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Forty adults with persistent allergies received either standard treatment plus apple extract or standard treatment alone. Researchers measured nasal symptoms and markers of inflammation and oxidative stress to see if the extract provided additional relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Apple fruit extract (Malus sylvestris mill) and quercetin
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a natural supplement to ease nasal allergy symptoms.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and apple extract is not a replacement for standard allergy treatments.
