Tiny incisions, big relief: new laparoscopy technique aims to ease appendectomy pain
NCT ID NCT04614519
First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tested a gentler type of keyhole surgery for removing the appendix, called low impact laparoscopy (LIL). It uses smaller incisions and lower gas pressure in the belly compared to standard laparoscopy. The goal was to see if this method reduces pain after surgery and helps patients recover faster. Fifty adults with uncomplicated appendicitis took part, and their pain and recovery were tracked for 30 days after surgery.
