New blood thinner may help liver patients avoid deadly bleeding

Summary
This study looks at whether a blood thinner called rivaroxaban can safely prevent further bleeding and complications in people with liver cirrhosis who have both high-risk varicose veins in the stomach and a blood clot in the liver's main vein. About 175 adults who have already had one bleeding episode will start the drug 48 hours after an endoscopic procedure. The goal is to see if the drug reduces the risk of rebleeding, worsening fluid buildup, or death over six months.
