Scientists probe why antibiotics fail in severe COVID-19 lungs
NCT ID NCT05464680
Summary
This study aimed to understand why pneumonia often returns in COVID-19 patients on ventilators despite antibiotic treatment. Researchers measured how well two common antibiotics (piperacillin and tazobactam) moved from the bloodstream into the lung tissue of 34 critically ill patients. The goal was to see if poor antibiotic delivery explains the high rate of recurrent infections.
