Lung antibiotic mystery in COVID-19 ventilated patients
NCT ID NCT05464680
First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at why antibiotics often fail to treat pneumonia in COVID-19 patients on breathing machines. Researchers measured how well an antibiotic called piperacillin reaches the lungs in 34 adults with severe COVID-19. The goal was to understand if poor drug penetration explains the high rate of repeat infections, which could lead to better treatment strategies.
