Awake vs. asleep: new anesthesia study aims to protect frail Patients' brains
NCT ID NCT07486336
First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether staying awake during surgery (using spinal anesthesia and light sedation) is better than general anesthesia for frail patients over 60 having laparoscopic or robotic abdominal surgery. Researchers will see if this approach is possible and safe, and whether it helps prevent confusion or memory problems after surgery. The goal is to learn which method works best for this vulnerable group.
