Drug trial aims to tame deadly dengue inflammation

NCT ID NCT05611710

Summary

This study is testing whether a drug called anakinra can help people hospitalized with severe dengue fever. Dengue can cause a dangerous overreaction of the immune system called a 'cytokine storm.' Researchers want to see if anakinra, which calms inflammation, can improve organ function and recovery compared to a placebo. The trial involves 160 patients in Vietnam who are already very sick and showing signs of this severe immune reaction.
