New lithium formula tested for brain uptake in healthy adults

NCT ID NCT06921590

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests a new crystallized form of lithium (AL001) against standard lithium carbonate in 6 healthy adults. Participants take each drug for 14 days and undergo MRIs and blood draws to compare how much lithium reaches the brain. The goal is to see if AL001 is safer or more effective at targeting the brain, which could help future treatments for conditions like bipolar disorder.
