NCT ID NCT07791875

What the study statuses mean

This study's is highlighted.

Recruitment status, easiest to join first

Recruiting now
This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting This study
Registered, but not yet taking participants.
By invitation only
Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

When the status isn't known

Details not published
The full record has not been published yet, so there is little to show here.

Summary

This trial tests whether an AI-based system can estimate the position of a port catheter tip from chest X-rays taken during routine care. Adults getting a port implanted through the right internal jugular vein will have their X-rays analyzed by the AI, and the results will be compared with a manual measurement method. The AI's accuracy is checked against CT scans that are already part of their care, but the AI's output is not used to guide the procedure. The goal is to see if the automated method can match the manual approach in estimating catheter tip location.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
AI-based automated image analysis of chest radiographs to estimate port catheter tip position
What this could lead to
If the AI method proves accurate, it could offer a faster, automated way to check catheter placement without extra imaging.
What could go wrong
This is an early, observational study with 100 participants. The AI is tested offline and not used in real-time, so it may not work in broader practice or improve patient outcomes.

Who can take part

This study's own entry requirements. Only the study team can say for certain whether you qualify.

Who is studied

Adults aged 18 years or older scheduled for right internal jugular vein placement of a totally implantable venous access port at Bagcilar Training and Research Hospital will be screened consecutively for this single-center prospective observational study. Enrollment will require written informed consent and confirmation of all eligibility criteria, including availability of a clinically indicated post-implantation noncontrast chest computed tomography (CT) examination and absence of documented catheter manipulation or revision before the selected CT. CT reference evaluability and generation of a valid automated output will determine the relevant analysis populations and will not be prerequisites for enrollment. No additional imaging will be performed for research purposes.

Inclusion Criteria: * Age 18 years or older. * Planned placement of a totally implantable venous access port through the right internal jugular vein as part of routine clinical care. * Availability of a suitable pre-implantation chest radiograph obtained as part of routine clinical care. * Availability of a clinically indicated post-implantation noncontrast chest computed tomography examination. * Absence of documented catheter manipulation or revision before the selected post-implantation computed tomography examination. * Provision of written informed consent. Exclusion Criteria: * Age younger than 18 years. * Cancellation of the routine clinical port implantation plan. * Planned or performed port placement through a venous access route other than the right internal jugular vein. * No suitable pre-implantation chest radiograph available for study assessment. * Advanced thoracic deformity or mediastinal distortion precluding the required study measurements. * Inability or unwillingness to provide written informed consent.
