AI boosts colonoscopy accuracy to prevent advanced polyps
NCT ID NCT07467928
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 404 people who previously had either an AI-assisted or conventional colonoscopy. Researchers want to see if AI help lowers the risk of developing advanced colon polyps later. Participants will undergo a surveillance colonoscopy to check for new growths.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- artificial intelligence-assisted colonoscopy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that AI helps doctors find more polyps during colonoscopy, lowering the chance of future advanced growths and improving cancer prevention.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational follow-up, not a new treatment test. The AI was used only in the initial colonoscopy, so benefits may be limited or not apply to everyone.

Inclusion Criteria: * Eligible participants are those who were previously enrolled and completed our randomized controlled trial comparing AI-assisted and conventional colonoscopy Exclusion Criteria: * In addition to the baseline exclusion criteria of the index trial, patients who were found to have inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer and underwent bowel resection would be excluded. Similar to index trial, patients who have developed severe comorbid illnesses that make surveillance colonoscopy and polypectomy unsafe, or become unable to provide informed consent for trial participation would also be excluded Index trial: Lui TK, Lam CP, To EW, Ko MK, Tsui VWM, Liu KS, et al.
