First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether press needle acupuncture can reduce anxiety in adults before ear surgery. Thirty-two participants will receive either real or sham needles placed in the ear and head one day before surgery. Researchers will measure anxiety using a questionnaire and heart rate monitoring. The goal is to see if this simple, drug-free approach helps patients feel more relaxed before their operation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

press needle acupuncture

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help patients feel calmer before surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants. The sham group may also feel less anxious, making it hard to prove the real needles work better.
