Can a simple test spot achilles problems in senior runners?
NCT ID NCT07497217
First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a movement screening test can accurately detect changes in Achilles tendon pain in runners over 40. Forty senior runners with Achilles tendinopathy will be randomly assigned to two physiotherapy groups, one with extra stretching. The goal is to see if the screening test is a valid way to measure improvement, compared to other clinical measures.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple screening test to better track recovery in older runners with Achilles pain, helping tailor physiotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants and a short 12-week follow-up. The screening test may not prove accurate or useful in broader populations.
