Could a simple blood test replace the annoying 24-Hour urine collection for carcinoid tumors?
NCT ID NCT02826928
First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at 116 people with small-intestine neuroendocrine tumors (carcinoid tumors) to see if a blood test or an overnight urine test works as well as the standard 24-hour urine test for diagnosis. The standard test is accurate but requires collecting all urine for 2-3 days and following a special diet. The goal was to find a simpler, less burdensome way to diagnose and monitor these tumors.
