Robotic surgery over 5G could bring expert care to remote High-Altitude regions

NCT ID NCT07551063

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This early-phase study will test whether surgeons in a city can safely operate a robot to remove liver parasites in patients located over 1,500 km away in high-altitude Tibet. Ten adults with liver echinococcosis (a parasitic infection) will have their surgery performed remotely using the Toumai™ robotic system over a 5G network. The main goal is to see if the procedure can be completed without switching to open surgery or causing major complications.
