New scan could sharply improve head & neck cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07285564

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special PET-CT scan (micro-PET-CT) can accurately show where head and neck cancer ends, compared to standard lab tests. Ten adults with operable head and neck tumors will have their surgical specimens scanned and then checked under a microscope. If successful, this could help surgeons remove all cancer in one operation.
