Radioactive 'Smart Bomb' targets Hard-to-Treat cancers in first human test

NCT ID NCT06824155

First seen Feb 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This early-phase trial tests a new drug called 177Lu-RAD202, which is a radioactive antibody designed to seek out and deliver radiation directly to HER2-positive cancer cells. The study involves 30 adults with advanced solid tumors that have not responded to standard treatments. First, participants receive a small imaging dose to see where the drug goes in the body, then a treatment dose to check safety and find the best dose for future studies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

177Lu-RAD202 (a radioactive antibody that targets HER2 on cancer cells)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could lead to a new targeted treatment option for people with advanced HER2-positive solid tumors that have stopped responding to other therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a very early (Phase 0/1) and small trial with only 30 participants. The main goal is safety and dosing, not yet effectiveness. There are risks from radiation exposure to healthy organs.
