Teratoma
MONDO:0002601A non-seminomatous germ cell tumor characterized by the presence of various tissues which correspond to the different germinal layers (endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm). It occurs in the testis, ovary, and extragonadal sites including central nervous system, mediastinum, lung, and stomach. According to the level of differentiation of the tissues which comprise the tumor, teratomas are classified as mature or immature. Mature teratomas are composed of well differentiated, adult-type tissues. Immature teratomas are composed of immature, fetal-type tissues. Testicular teratomas in children follow a benign clinical course. Mature ovarian teratomas without a fetal-type component have an excellent outcome. The prognosis of immature ovarian teratomas is related to the grade and stage of the tumor.

Tailored treatment may reduce radiation side effects in young brain tumor patients
Disease control Recruiting nowThis phase 2 trial tests a personalized approach for children and young adults with a rare brain tumor called non-germinomatous germ cell tumor (NGGCT). Patients first receive chemotherapy, and then the type and amount of radiation they get depends on how well the tumor responds.…

Major trial tests gentler chemo for germ cell tumors
Disease control Recruiting nowThis phase 3 trial studies two approaches for germ cell tumors. For low-risk patients whose tumor has been removed, doctors will monitor them closely instead of giving chemotherapy. For standard-risk patients whose cancer has spread, the trial compares two chemotherapy drugs—carb…

Massive study tracks 1,100+ kids after cancer treatment to uncover hidden risks
Knowledge-focused Recruiting nowThis study follows over 1,100 children who were treated for germ cell tumors (a type of cancer). Researchers want to learn about long-term side effects like hearing loss and to analyze tumor DNA to better predict which children might have their cancer come back. Participants prov…
