Paraganglioma
MONDO:0000448A benign or malignant neoplasm arising from paraganglia located along the sympathetic or parasympathetic nerves. Infrequently, it may arise outside the usual distribution of the sympathetic and parasympathetic paraganglia. Tumors arising from the adrenal gland medulla are called pheochromocytomas. Morphologically, paragangliomas usually display a nesting (Zellballen) growth pattern. There are no reliable morphologic criteria to distinguish between benign and malignant paragangliomas. The only definitive indicator of malignancy is the presence of regional or distant metastases.
Also known as: Paraganglionic neoplasm, Paraganglionic tumor, Paraganglionic tumour, neoplasm of paraganglion, neoplasm of the paraganglion, paraganglioma, paragangliomas, paraganglion neoplasm

Can a new drug shrink Hard-to-Treat adrenal tumors?
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis phase 2 trial is testing whether the drug ivonescimab can help control advanced or metastatic adrenal cancers, specifically adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) and pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL), that have not responded to prior treatment. About 20 adults with these rare c…

Can watching and waiting beat early treatment for Slow-Growing head and neck tumors?
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis trial asks whether monitoring a slow-growing head and neck tumor without immediate treatment can preserve quality of life better than early surgery or radiation. Adults with newly diagnosed carotid or vagal paragangliomas are randomly assigned to either active surveillance o…

New drug aims to shrink rare adrenal tumors
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis phase 2 trial tests an oral drug called zanzalintinib in people with metastatic pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma that cannot be surgically removed and is growing. The study measures how many participants see their tumors shrink or stop growing. All participants take the dru…

Italian study examines targeted radiation for rare gland tumors
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis study looks back at how well a type of targeted radiation therapy (PRRT) works for people with advanced pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma, rare tumors of the adrenal glands. Researchers will analyze data from about 210 patients treated in Italy over 24 years. The goal is to…

Radioactive drug targets hard-to-treat neuroendocrine tumors in early trial
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis phase 1 trial tests a radioactive drug called 211At-MABG in 16 adults with advanced neuroendocrine cancers, including pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. The drug delivers radiation directly to cancer cells that show up on a special scan. The main goal is to see if the treat…

New imaging agent could improve detection of rare cancers
Diagnosis Not yet recruitingThis study will compare a new radioactive tracer, 18F-AmBF3TATE, to the standard tracer 68Ga-DOTATATE for PET scans in people with neuroendocrine tumors. The goal is to see if the new tracer is as good or better at finding tumors. About 51 participants will receive both tracers a…

AI and glucose monitors may predict surgery risks for rare tumors
Knowledge-focused Not yet recruitingThis study will enroll 200 patients scheduled for surgery to remove rare adrenal tumors called pheochromocytomas or paragangliomas (PPGL). Before surgery, researchers will use a model to predict the risk of severe blood pressure swings during the operation. During surgery, a real…
