Neuroendocrine neoplasm
MONDO:0019496Endocrine tumors, also referred to as neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), are defined by a common phenotype which is characterized by the expression of general markers (neuron specific enolase, chromogranin, synaptophysin) and hormone secretion products. These tumors may be localized in any part of the body and are generally discovered in non-specific situations, i.e. not immediately suggestive of NETs (tests for inherited predisposition to tumors or for a clinical syndrome caused by abnormal hormone secretion).

Experimental drug entinostat studied for rare abdominal cancer, trial halted early
Disease control Stopped earlyThis study tested a drug called entinostat in people with advanced abdominal neuroendocrine tumors that had come back or stopped responding to other treatments. Only 5 people enrolled before the trial was stopped early. The goal was to see if the drug could shrink tumors or slow …

Promising cancer drug trial halted after just one patient
Disease control Stopped earlyThis study aimed to see if giving Lutathera (a radioactive drug) after surgery to remove liver metastases from neuroendocrine tumors could help keep the cancer from coming back. It planned to compare Lutathera plus best supportive care against best supportive care alone in about …

Can a sharper PET tracer light up hidden neuroendocrine tumors?
Diagnosis Stopped earlyThis trial tests an injected tracer called Gallium-68 HA-DOTATATE, which binds to somatostatin receptors found on most neuroendocrine tumors. Researchers want to see if a PET/CT or PET/MRI scan using this tracer is safe and accurately detects these tumors compared with standard C…

Swiss registry aims to map rare neuroendocrine tumors
Knowledge-focused Stopped earlyNeuroendocrine tumors of the gut and pancreas are rare and not well understood, which makes treatment decisions hard. The SwissNET registry collects health information from patients across Switzerland who have these tumors. Researchers will track tumor types, treatments used, and…
