Bone drug boosts orthodontic screw success in small trial

NCT ID NCT07546058

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether injecting a small amount of zoledronic acid, a bone-strengthening drug, near orthodontic miniscrews could help them stay stable. Sixty-eight people with mild to moderate overbite received miniscrews on both sides of their upper jaw; one side got the drug and the other got a saltwater placebo. The main goal was to see if the drug improved screw survival after six months of orthodontic force.
