Could a simple zinc pill save more babies from deadly infections?
NCT ID NCT06102044
Summary
This study is testing if adding a zinc supplement to standard antibiotic treatment helps newborn babies with severe infections survive and recover better. It will involve 3,250 infants in Tanzania who are hospitalized with serious infections. Half will receive zinc pills and half will receive a placebo (a pill with no medicine) for 14 days, in addition to their regular hospital care, to see if zinc makes a difference.
