Zinc boosts botox: fewer needles for jaw pain?
NCT ID NCT07270042
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking zinc pills for four days before Botox injections can make the muscle-relaxing effect last longer in people with overactive jaw muscles. Twenty adults with jaw clenching or grinding will receive Botox in both masseter muscles, and half will also take zinc beforehand. Researchers will measure muscle activity and patient satisfaction over 12 weeks to see if zinc extends the treatment's benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
zinc gluconate and botulinum toxin A
What this could lead to
If it works, this could mean fewer Botox injections for people with jaw clenching or grinding, saving time and cost.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 people, so results may not apply widely. Zinc might not extend Botox's effect as hoped.
