NCT ID NCT03977493
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injections of Xeomin (a botulinum toxin type A) can reduce hand cramps in people with focal hand dystonia, a condition that causes involuntary muscle contractions. About 48 adults will receive either Xeomin or a placebo injection into hand muscles. The main goal is to see if it improves handwriting comfort and ability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
IncobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a proven treatment option to reduce hand cramps and improve handwriting for people with focal hand dystonia.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 3 trial with only 48 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect may be modest, and injections can cause temporary muscle weakness.
