Surgery study tests if waiting to close wounds reduces infections

NCT ID NCT07142395

Summary

This study aimed to find the best way to close surgical wounds after emergency abdominal operations to prevent infections and complications. It compared closing the skin immediately after surgery versus waiting 3-5 days before closing it. Researchers followed 82 adult patients for four weeks to see which method led to fewer wound infections, fewer wound openings, and shorter hospital stays.
