First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study is testing a controlled human infection model for whooping cough. Researchers will give healthy adults aged 18-50 a nasal spray containing a low dose of the bacteria that causes whooping cough. The goal is to find a dose that causes mild symptoms and allows the bacteria to be detected in the nose, helping scientists better understand the disease and develop improved vaccines and treatments.
