White noise soothes Babies' cries during blood draws, study hopes

NCT ID NCT07453641

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether playing white noise during routine blood draws or IV insertions can reduce how long infants aged 1-3 months cry afterward. Researchers will measure crying duration in 37 babies who hear white noise through speakers during the procedure. If effective, white noise could be a simple, non-drug way to ease pain-related distress in infants.

Active substance

White noise audio

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease distress in babies during routine needle procedures.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study (37 infants) with no blinding or control group, so results may not be reliable or generalizable. White noise may not reduce crying at all.
