AI texts that schedule doctor visits boost Well-Child checkups for medicaid kids

NCT ID NCT06698640

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether smart text messages that help families schedule well-child visits can improve checkup rates for children on Medicaid. Over 2,800 kids were split into three groups: one got usual mailed reminders, another got automated texts, and a third got texts plus AI that could book appointments directly. The goal was to see if removing scheduling barriers works better than reminders alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Automated SMS reminders and conversational AI scheduling assistance

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that AI scheduling support is a simple, scalable way to get more children their preventive checkups.

What could go wrong

This is a completed trial, so results are final. However, it tested only one Medicaid plan and a short outreach window, so findings may not apply everywhere.
