Can special exercises help babies with torticollis move better?

NCT ID NCT07663721

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether weight shift training—a type of physical therapy—can help infants with congenital muscular torticollis (a tight neck muscle that causes head tilting) bear weight more evenly on their arms. Thirty infants aged 6 to 12 months will be randomly assigned to receive either stretching exercises alone or stretching plus weight shift training for 8 weeks. The goal is to see if the extra training improves posture, movement, and arm symmetry.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Weight shift training (a physical therapy technique) and stretching exercises

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a simple, non-invasive therapy to improve posture and motor development in infants with torticollis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 infants. The results may not apply to all cases, and the therapy may not be more effective than standard stretching alone.
